阻抗式翻译在英汉互译中的两难境地

随着各国人民之间的不断沟通和跨文化交流,异化译法将越来越广泛地被采用,与归化译法取得平衡,甚至可能占据上风。这也是中国文学翻译近年来的趋势。从翻译实践到翻译研究,异化翻译越来越受到中国翻译家和译学家们的重视。韦努蒂提出“译者的隐身”和“阻抗式翻译”的概念,更加推动了中国翻译异化趋势的可能。但是,韦努蒂的“阻抗式”异化翻译策略在英汉互译中是否真的可行还未必可知,张爱玲的翻译实践结果就是这方面的一个典型例子。张爱玲不仅是20世纪中国的传奇作家,更是位出色的双语作家和译者。她在翻译中坚持保持中国传统文化特色,侧重于异化的翻译策略,因此,本文尝试以张爱玲的英译汉作品《老人与海》与汉译英作品《金锁记》为案例中来考查韦努蒂的阻抗式翻译策略在中国翻译活动中的可行度。在第一章里,在本文介绍了韦努蒂的翻译思想并探讨了目前中国文学翻译的异化趋势。韦努蒂是积极倡导异化策略西方翻译理论家之一。韦努蒂阻抗式翻译的实质是利用异化翻译策略来彰显源语言文化差异以抵抗美国主流语言文化价值观。受西方翻译研究的影响以及中国社会文化环境的变化,异化策略在中国翻译研究中得到了越来越多的关注。在第二章里,本文介绍了张爱玲的英汉翻译实践,并重点分析了《老人与海》《金锁记》的异化特色。从张爱玲的翻译实践我们可以看到韦努蒂的阻抗式翻译在中国语境下陷入了一种两难的境地。一方面,在汉译英中,采用异化策略的译本得不到强势文化的接受和认可。另一方面,在英译汉中,采用异化策略的译本虽然能被目标文化接受,却恰恰助长了霸权文化对弱势文化的入侵。然后,本文结合张爱玲的翻译案例,来分析阻抗式翻译在英汉互译的两难境地的原因。这种困境是由于受到中国和英美文化的不同的诗学规范和文化需求的影响,但最重要是文化身份所造成的。最后,作者就此提出了某些建议和想法,指出要避免英汉互译中“异化”翻译的这种两难境地,不妨靠中国文化身份的重建和翻译策略的调整来实现。我们应该把归化异化结合起来,共同服务于抵抗文化霸权和构建民主文化格局的政治议程。总之,通过张爱玲的翻译实践我们看到韦努蒂的阻抗式翻译策略在英汉互译中陷入两难境地。在中国翻译语境下要走出这种两难境地,实现抵抗文化霸权的政治议程,主要依靠中国文化身份的重建和在意识形态的积极干预下对翻译策略作出调整,而不仅仅是局限于异化翻译去实现阻抗。
