基于语料库的中国英语学习者同义词使用情况研究

作为词汇深度知识习得难点和重点的同义词辨析能力决定着英语学习者语言输出的质量,而传统的基于直觉内省的同义词辨析方法,或是权威字典,均不足以给出明确的辨义解释,造成语义模糊和误用的结果。要研究学习者同义词掌握及使用情况就必须研究其语言输出。本文旨在研究中国英语学习者同义词使用情况,研究采用中介语对比分析方法。中国英语学习者的英语水平,即中介语水平,选取中国英语学习者语料库(CLEC)为代表。对比分析两组同义词, big, large and great和quite and rather,在中国学习者英语语料库(CLEC)和英语国家语料库(BNC)中的使用情况。本研究过程分为四步:首先,运用WordSmith软件中的Wordlist功能在语料库中统计节点词的频数,计算log-likelihood值来检测频数差异的显著性,对比分析中国英语学习者与本族语者在同义词使用频率方面的差异及其原因;其次,运用Concordance功能提取节点词的搭配信息,列出其检索行,计算相互信息值以判断搭配强度;再次,从同义词搭配的语义准确性方面对比分析二者使用行为的特点及其差异,并分析其原因;最后,从语义韵方面对比分析二者同义词使用情况及其差异;并分析说明产生差异的原因。研究结果表明,中国英语学习者同义词使用行为与本族语者之间的确存在差异,例如过多使用big and great,过少使用large and quite;词语搭配使用的语义不准确性和语义韵行为的不和谐。差异产生的原因主要在于由目标语语言知识不足导致的语内迁移,传统语法翻译教学法造成的语际迁移,二者交互作用;以及替代、回避等交际策略的使用等。针对研究中发现的问题,作者尝试性地提出改进同义词习得和教学方法的建议,如加强词汇搭配意识,提高输入的数量和质量等,有利于同义词教学理论和实践研究。
