对英语演讲语篇中插入语的功能研究

内容摘要

插入语是一种常见的语言现象,它大量地出现在各式文体中。由于插入语本身在形式和内容上都独立于所依附的句子,所以被人们认为是一种可有可无的成分。那么既然插入语可有可无,它为什么会出现各种语篇当中呢?它在其中又有什么功能呢?本研究就是从这一问题出发,运用韩礼德关于语言三大元功能(Metafunction)及附加语(Adjunct)的理论对演讲语篇中的英语插入语进行研究,目的在于通过对英语演讲语篇中的插入语的分析,对其产生的深层机制做出可能的解释。同时,本文也为演讲语篇的研究提供了一个新的角度,即通过其中的插入语看演讲语篇的一些文体特点。本文收集了同类型(Persuasive)的20篇美国大学生的优秀获奖演讲,经过对其中全部的442个插入语进行逐个分析发现,完全可以用三大元功能对插入语进行功能分类,这也证明用功能语言学可以分析插入语。本研究最后在对插入语功能分类的基础上,根据各类插入语在演讲语篇中的具体分布,即根据出现频率和比例等情况,指出插入语在演讲语篇中无论是在表现事物方面,在组织信息方面,还是人际意义方面都发挥着重要的功能,对演讲效果的达成起着各自不同的作用。本论文由六个部分构成。第一章导入部分提出了本论文的研究动机和目的,研究意义,以及整个论文的布局。第二章有两部分,一是对演讲语篇的介绍,包括其定义,分类以及文体特点等。第二部分介绍了英语插入语的定义和前人对其进行研究的回顾。第三章提出本文的理论框架以及本文采取的研究设计,重点介绍了韩礼德的元功能思想和附加语理论。在第四章,作者运用系统功能语法对演讲语篇中的插入语做出功能分类,将插入语分为概念,人际和语篇三种。第五章在对插入语的功能分类基础上,根据各类插入语在语篇中的分布情况以及各自的功能特点,对插入语在英语演讲语篇中的具体功能做了详细的解释。最后在第六章,作者对全文做出总结,并指出本研究的启示和局限。总之,对演讲语篇中插入语的功能语法分析不仅有助于深入了解插入语这一语言现象,还拓展了系统功能语法的应用领域,并且有助于人们更好地把握演讲语言的特点以及语篇特征。
