英语委婉语的隐转喻研究

内容摘要

委婉语作为一种常见的语言现象和语言手段已得到了学者们多方面的观察和研究，研究的重点多放在其语义生成机制和语用功能方面。随着认知语言学的兴起和发展，一些认知理论也被用来阐释委婉语。由于认知语言学中的隐喻和转喻不再仅仅被看作是普通的修辞手法而是人们思维的方式，因此我们有理由从认知隐喻和认知转喻的角度来阐释人们创造和使用委婉语的过程。通过自然观察和内省的方法，我们发现英语委婉语的构成中蕴含着一些内在的认知取向。本文正是从认知隐转喻的角度去解释英语委婉语的构成机制。文章首先回顾了委婉语的发展史、存在的动机以及语义生成手段，总结了以往及当前学者们对委婉语的这种角度的研究。在此基础上，我们从认知隐喻、认知转喻和隐转喻三个方面论述了英语委婉语的构成机制。分析结果显示：我们不能单纯从隐喻或转喻一个方面全面地阐述英语委婉语的形成，而是需要将两者结合起来才能得到比较充分的解释和理解。原因可能是认知隐喻研究是建立在寻找两个认知域之间的相似处之上的，而这些相似处可能是两个认知域中的一个或多个方面。这就为转喻的存在和发挥作用提供了空间。
