从翻译的对话性角度看晚清小说翻译

内容摘要

晚清出现了中国历史上第一次大规模的文学翻译活动,其中以小说翻译为尤。其显著的实用工具主义性质以及政治色彩吸引了众多学者的注意。然而此前对于晚清小说翻译的研究或者偏于狭窄的中心主义(原作中心、作者中心、译者中心、读者中心),或者偏于宽泛的文化派研究,均未能对其做出全面动态的研究。有鉴于此,本文借助巴赫金的对话理论,从翻译的对话性这一全新的角度深入探讨了晚清小说翻译。哲学阐释学结束了翻译的独白话语时代,引导翻译研究走向了对话交流。在经济技术全球化、跨文化交流高速发展的背景下,巴赫金对话理论为翻译对话性的研究提供了理论基础。翻译,作为在一定社会历史语境中发生的话语构建行为,具有对话本质:宏观上,翻译是两种文化之间的交流对话;微观上,是作者、译者、读者共同参与的以文本为题的一场对话。在翻译对话性原则的指导下,本文最后得出结论:对于晚清小说翻译的研究,既要从宏观上考察晚清的社会文化历史等文本之外的因素对小说翻译中文本选择、翻译策略、翻译方法等的影响;又不忽略文本内部特征以及晚清小说翻译过程中的多重对话性(原作/作者和读者/译者的对话,译者和目标读者的对话,译本和目标读者的对话),从而在微观层面上对其进行深入的探讨和分析。从翻译作为一场全面的共时和历时的多边对话模式角度重新探讨晚清出现的小说翻译鼎盛现象,不仅可以帮助读者更全面地了解晚清小说翻译,也更符合翻译研究在全球化背景下的新趋势。对话具有未完成性,晚清小说翻译活动以及对其的研究都是在对话中不断发展前进的。
