内容摘要

晚清翻译是中国翻译史上的第三次高潮,是在非常独特的社会文化背景下开展的。正是这种独特的背景产生了独特的、很有研究价值的翻译模式。近年来,随着文化学派的兴起,翻译研究者的目光不再局限于文本对比或者是对翻译标准的考察。美国翻译理论家安德烈·勒菲弗尔的三要素理论为我们的翻译研究提供了很好的理论框架。他的理论引入了制约翻译的三个要素:意识形态,诗学和赞助人。其中赞助人是作为文学系统的外部因素来影响和制约翻译活动的。对于晚清翻译的研究,我们不能满足于只评论译文的忠实与否,而是应该将译文和译者置于特定的社会文化背景下进行考察。本论文将勒菲弗尔的赞助人理论应用于晚清翻译的研究中,系统地分析了晚清翻译活动中的三种赞助模式以及不同赞助模式下的赞译关系和赞助特点。赞助人,作为一个重要因素,影响着翻译活动的每一个阶段。从准备阶段的取材和对目标读者的关照,到操作阶段的对原文本的理解和翻译策略、翻译方法的选择,以及翻译之后的出版和读者的接受,每一个阶段都受到赞助人因素的影响和制约。从赞助人的角度研究晚清翻译,跳出文学系统内部,从外部考察影响和制约翻译活动的因素,为翻译研究提供了新的视角,使我们对于翻译活动的本质有了更深入更全面的认识。
