语篇意识与翻译

内容摘要

语言交际总是以语篇的形式出现,而翻译作为一种跨语言、跨文化的交际活动,其对象自是语篇。翻译的过程实质上就是译者理解源语语篇和构建译语语篇的交际过程。译者的主要任务就是构建与源语语篇在语用、语义、风格等层面上最大限度“对等”的译语语篇,以期达到最好的交际效果。因此,翻译和语篇密切相关。随着语篇语言学(话语分析)研究的兴起,翻译研究与实践的对象已不再只是静态的词句,而是动态的语篇。在翻译研究实践中必须建立明确的语篇意识。目前,虽然国内外有学者进行语篇翻译的研究,但是少有论及语篇意识或对其进行系统深入地探讨,有的只停留于理论探讨,未能联系实践;即使有的理论与实践相结合,但多数针对的是英汉翻译,而忽略了汉英翻译实践。为了弥补这一遗憾,本文以语篇语言学理论为框架,对语篇与翻译的关系、语篇意识在翻译中的重要性和必要性进行了全面的论述,并且对语篇意识作了全新的阐释,即翻译中需具备整体意识、语境意识和对比意识,强调语篇既是个整体,又是一个层级,每一个层级的翻译操作都应在其上一层级作为思维背景的情况下进行,而整个的语篇——篇章是翻译决策的最终落脚点,是评判翻译质量的最后仲裁。接着,以张培基英译现代散文为案例,实证了语篇意识在翻译实践中的重要性和必要性。最后文章得出结论,语篇意识在翻译中不可或缺,在翻译研究和实践中,译者必须树立语篇意识,提高语篇能力。
