对中国EFL学习者英语语调表态功能使用的研究

内容摘要

众所周知,在世界各国政治,经济和文化交流越来越频繁的今天,语调在英语口语交际中起着至关重要的作用。语调不仅能够消除语法歧义,传达信息,而且能够表达说话者的情感和态度。然而,如果人们不能恰当的运用英语语调,会造成理解上的困难甚至误解,这种情况在英语本土语者和EFL英语学习者之间时有发生,使交际活动不能有效顺利进行。本文针对中国英语学习者英语语调表态功能的使用做探索研究,旨在描述整体情况并对语调教学提出有意义的建议。本研究以Halliday (1967)提出的语调三重理论为理论基础,从语调的表态功能角度在哈尔滨工业大学大三学生中进行调查。主要分为两部分:英语本土语者的感知判断和用Praat做语音学分析。首先,研究者查阅了今年有关语调研究的资料并从中选出表达高兴、不满、不耐烦的、骄傲的等等20种不同情感态度的29个句子作为录音材料。录音完成后,4名美国教师听录音并分别对研究者的语调表现按照5级的Likert Scale打分。最后研究者借助Praat对被调查者的调群切分,调核位置和调型等方面进行分析。研究结果表明,中国学生的英语语调表态功能使用总体上与英语本族语者差距较大;在19种情感、态度中,中国学生的表现参差不齐;英语专业学生对英语语调表态功能的使用比非英语专业学生好;中国学生在与英语本土语者在调核位置方面差别不大,但在调域和调核音调类型上差别较大,另外,中国学生过多使用降调。希望本研究的结果能够引起对英语语调表态功能的使用更多的关注,为语调教学提供参考,使教学者在教学过程中有的放矢。
