奥巴马公开政治演讲中身份构建的共时与历时分析

内容摘要

批评话语分析,是话语分析领域一种新兴的跨学科的研究方法,重点探究语言、意识形态与权力之间的相互关系。批评话语分析作为话语分析的重要实践工具,可以有效地揭示说话者的身份以及其个体身份的构建过程,充分反映在不同的社会群体里,不同的人通过不同的话语构建各自身份的心理和社会化过程。本文主要依据批评话语分析理论对奥巴马公开政治演讲中的话语进行批评性分析,展示政治家们是如何利用语言构建其自身的身份,如何将其意识形态渗透给听众并使之无意识的接受,从而达到其政治目的。本研究以奥巴马公开政治演讲为语料,首先作者建了一个小型语料库。语料包括奥巴马政治生涯三个不同阶段的演讲：国会参议员时期的演讲(文中表述为pre-presidential speeches),就职典礼上发表的演讲(文中表述为Inaugural Address),总统时期的演讲(文中表述为post-presidential speeches)。语料共包括47篇演讲稿,涉及政治、经济、文化、外交、教育等多个方面内容。然后结合Halliday的系统功能语法,采用WordSmith和Antconc语料库分析软件作为辅助工具,对其政治演讲的语言特点,篇章结构等进行分析。同时利用Fairclough、Ruth Wodak和Paul Chilton的批评语言学观点对其身份建构进行了进一步批评性语篇分析,揭示了奥巴马身份构建的过程,以及其政治演讲中话语、身份构建、意识形态和权力之间的关系。研究发现,奥巴马身份的构建在其人生的三个不同阶段既有差别之处又有相同之处,并且话语,身份建构,意识形态和权力之间存在一定的联系。研究亦表明在具体的社会背景下,批评话语分析可以揭示话语者的身份及其构建过程。本研究旨在培养人们的批评话语意识,帮助其清楚地认识到政治家演讲内容背后的真实意图。此外,身份建构研究对我国的英语教学和英语学习也具有一定的指导意义,可以帮助学生了解各种身份的构建方式,深入理解语言背后的深层内涵,进而提高其英语语言水平和语用能力。
