学生家庭背景与英语学习成绩的相关性研究

内容摘要

近年来人们倾向于从社会视角研究外语学习。家庭是影响一个人发展的重要的微观生态环境。处于新世纪的中国,改革开放不断深化和发展,市场经济体系逐步建立和完善,社会阶层进一步分化,人们的收入差距进一步拉大。学生的家庭背景呈现多样化的趋势。但由于教育资源的分配极其不均匀,这种社会差异在教育领域,尤其在非义务教育阶段有比较突出的体现。社会生活信息化和经济全球一体化使英语的重要性日益突出。英语作为最重要的信息载体之一,已成为人类生活各个领域中使用最广泛的语言。在中国目前的教育体制下,外语是基础教育阶段的必修课程,而英语是外语课程中的最主要的语种。英语学习成绩的好坏直接制约着学生的上升流动。与其他基础教育的课程相比,英语学习需要家庭较多的投资。本研究注重阐述家庭背景和高中生英语学习的关系。在本研究中,家庭背景主要是家长的受教育程度、家庭经济状况和家庭的文化氛围等对子女英语学习目标、学习计划、学习方法和策略的采用等方面的影响,以至对学生英语学习成绩的影响。期望能对不同家庭在培养和教育子女英语学习方面有一定的积极意义。为了考察高中生家庭背景与其英语学习成绩之间的关系,我们从甘肃省庄浪县第一中学抽取698名2009届高三学生。采用调查问卷和跟踪采访的方式对其进行为期一年的调查研究。结果显示:家庭背景对学生的英语学习有正向影响。这些实证研究结果对于中国外语学习者的父母和教育者以及外语学习者本人都具有一定的现实指导意义。为了提高英语教学及学习的效率,学习者的父母应通过各种途径努力提高自身的教育水平,以此来改善家庭英语学习环境并提高帮助和指导孩子英语学习的能力。外语教师和教育者则应对学生的家庭背景给予一定的重视并努力促成家校间的有效合作。
